Goa Lawah temple, the temple was built on the mouth of the cave is guarded by thousands of bats hanging on the walls of cave mouth. This temple was built in front of the Kusamba beach in the 11th century by the MPU Kuturan, one of the holy priest who came to Bali that have a big hand in terms of the concept of worship for the Hindu community in Bali. The Goa Lawah temple is one of the most important temple in Bali, because it is closely related to the purification rites of ancestor or better known as Nyegara Gunung ceremony. Thousands of bats in the Goa Lawah temple believed to be sacred creatures who were assigned to guard the sanctity of the temple. Swarms of bats seemed unfazed and kept busy hanging cave mouth although hundreds of people visit this temple every day.
